Is Inside Out 2 streaming?

In 2015, Pixar’s Inside Out introduced viewers to the inner life of a young girl named Riley Anderson as embodied by her emotions: Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger, and Disgust. It was a massive hit with audiences and critics alike, and earned $858.8 million worldwide. Nine years later, Pixar is in bad need of another hit, especially since the studio’s last blockbuster was Toy Story 4 in 2019.

For the sequel, Amy Poehler is reprising her voice role as Joy, with Phyllis Smith as Sadness, Lewis Black as Anger, Diane Lane as Mrs. Anderson, and Kyle MacLachlan as Mr. Anderson. Tony Hale and Liza Lapira are stepping into the roles of Fear and Disgust, respectively replacing Bill Hader and Mindy Kaling. New cast members include Ayo Edebiri as Envy, Adèle Exarchopoulos as Ennui, Paul Walter Hauser as Embarrassment, and Kensington Tallman as Riley, who was previously voiced by Kaitlyn Dias.

Now it’s time to answer the question that brought you here, and we’ll tell you if Inside Out 2 is streaming.

Is Inside Out 2 streaming?

The old emotions meet the new emotions in Inside Out 2.

No. The entire reason why Pixar has struggled at the box office in the last few years is that Disney put too many Pixar originals on Disney+ without giving them a theatrical release. That trained audiences to stay home, rather than rush out to see new Pixar movies in theaters. Last year’s Pixar release, Elemental, had a lackluster opening weekend. However, Elemental proved to have legs at the box office and it became a solid performer by the time its theatrical run was over.

But to get Pixar out of its slump, Disney needs something more than just a solid performer. And early indications are that Inside Out 2 will live up to those sky-high expectations. The latest projections have Inside Out 2 making an $85 million debut, which would give it the biggest opening of 2024. If the film can meet or exceed that number, then it would go a long way toward reversing Pixar’s fortunes.

When will Inside Out 2 be available to stream?

Disney has recently been extending the theatrical window between a film’s premiere and its streaming debut on Disney+. This is especially true for box office hits, as Disney wants those movies to play in theaters as long as possible before getting Blu-ray and 4K physical releases.

That will likely mean that Inside Out 2 won’t be streaming until this fall, presumably in either September or October. It’s possible that Inside Out 2 could be held back as late as November, but Disney+ has a much lighter schedule now that the production budget for streaming originals has been slashed. In other words, Disney+ needs streaming hits just as much as the studio’s theatrical wing needs blockbusters. Fortunately, Inside Out 2 will likely be a big streaming performer once Disney+ finally adds it to the library.

Quentin Tarantino is Joker 2’s biggest fan: ‘One of the best performances I’ve ever seen’
Quentin Tarantino smiles on the right while the Joker stands on the right.

Quentin Tarantino has never been afraid to express his opinion. Tarantino's latest statement is about Joker: Folie à Deux, the much-maligned sequel. Not only did Tarantino love the movie but he cited Joaquin's Phoenix acting in Joker 2 as "one of the best performances" he's ever seen in his life.

"I really, really liked it, really. A lot. Like, tremendously, and I went to see it expecting to be impressed by the filmmaking,” Tarantino said in an interview on The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast. "But I thought it was going to be an arms-length, intellectual exercise that ultimately I wouldn’t think worked like a movie, but that I would appreciate it for what it is. And I’m just nihilistic enough to kind of enjoy a movie that doesn’t quite work as a movie or that’s like a big, giant mess to some degree. And I didn’t find it an intellectual exercise. I really got caught up into it. I really liked the musical sequences."

10 most popular movies of 2024 so far, ranked
A woman and Betelgeuse stand next to each other with confused looks on their faces.

It looked pretty bleak for the 2024 theatrical movie slate in the first five months of the year. Dune: Part Two did its part, becoming a hit domestically and internationally. However, many blockbusters from January to May either flopped or underperformed. Those disappointments include Argylle, The Fall Guy, and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.

However, Bad Boys: Ride or Die came out the first weekend of June and completely turned the tide. One week later, Inside Out 2 opened to historic numbers on its way to becoming the highest-grossing animated movie ever. Deadpool & Wolverine proved Marvel's cold streak was over with a monster box office haul. Twisters and Despicable Me 2 also found large audiences and performed well in theaters. Despite the slow start, 2024 has had a slew of hits. Below are the 10 most popular movies of 2024 ranked by domestic gross.
